“By voting, we add our voice to the chorus that forms opinions and the basis for actions.” ~Jens Stoltenberg
Americans head to the voting booth on Tuesday. Though a mid-term election, it has been hailed as the most important election in the history of the United States of America, and early voting indicates people believe that: more people have cast their votes early than voted in the entire last mid-term election.
Some say democracy itself is on the ballot; I say decency is, too.
For years now, we’ve all witnessed increasing incivility in dialogue and incendiary headlines in print and on the airwaves.
Many of us are disgusted by the extremist yelling, sick of the political obfuscation, and weary of the overt lying.
My hope is that all US citizens raise their voices and cast a ballot for their country, not solely their party.
My hope is that they do this maturely, substituting determination and decorum for anger and outrage.
Because dignity and decency, and responsibility and respect, are all on the ballot on Tuesday.
If you are an American citizen, make your voice count.
Vote.
“Maturity is the ability to think, speak and act your feelings within the bounds of dignity. The measure of your maturity is how spiritual you become during the midst of your frustrations.” ~Samuel Ullman
