“When everything is moving and shifting, the only way to counteract chaos is stillness. When the surface is wavy, dive deeper for quieter waters.” ~Kristin Armstrong
I write these words from an Adirondack chair on the porch of our cottage overlooking the mighty St. Lawrence River.
A silent Sunday morning. The vacationers have departed for the season. There are no boats in motion on the water. All is quiet.
But this morning is more than just silent; it is still, and there is a difference.
One can be frenetic on the inside in the midst of silence.
And one can be still on the inside in the midst of clamour.
Silence does not necessarily equate to stillness, but it’s one avenue for finding it, despite the fact that many find silence unnerving having experienced the “silent treatment” in relationships.
Our world is becoming increasingly frenetic, increasingly fearful, and not without good reason.
So, to combat the chaos outside, carve out a bit of silence for yourself, inside, every day.
Seek stillness and calm.
Dive below and spend time in deeper waters.
Because to create peace outside ourselves, we must be cultivate it from within first.
