“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know. Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly.” ~Buckminster Fuller
I had several conversations with clients this week which, upon reflection, hold a common theme: fear of not being enough.
Not good enough, or smart enough.
Not strong enough, or clear enough, or kind enough.
Just shy of some standard that left them feeling less than, dragging with it in its wake self-doubt, self-protection and a gnawing anxiety.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret you’ll learn when you die, but it’s best to embrace it while you’ve still got boots on the ground: you are enough. Already.
You are enough by virtue of your humanity: Learning to believe it, to relax into it without becoming complacent—that’s the work of life.
So, become your own best friend. Play nice. Celebrate.
Because if you don’t become your own best friend and start treating yourself as such, if you don’t celebrate the small wins and big dreams as you would with a friend, if you don’t forgive yourself for getting a “B” when an “A” was expected, you will ultimately find contentment beyond your reach.
Each child is a budding genius. If you are a parent, you know this.
And then life happens and talents can lie dormant under the weight of its sludge—but they live, still, waiting to be unearthed.
It’s up to you to dig a little for your gifts.
They’re there.
Because you’re human.
And therefore, enough.
“Thousands of geniuses live and die undiscovered – either by themselves or by others.” ~Mark Twain
