“A good friend is like a four-leaf clover; hard to find and lucky to have.” Irish Proverb
March 17th. Today is St. Patrick’s Day.
An Irish meme is that of luck, the leprechaun, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Today is also what would have been my friend’s 70th birthday, but she died six weeks ago.
Christina may have come from sturdy German stock, but she had the luck of the Irish; resources flowed to her.
One of the reasons for that was the size of her heart. It shone from the inside out. She was incredibly generous with her time and talent. People used to refer to her as “lucky” all the time.
I’m convinced she only seemed lucky to those who don’t understand the cause and effect of her magic wand of gratitude; her generosity invited reciprocity.
Luck doesn’t just happen; you must participate in its creation.
Others may be thinking about parades and green beer today. I’m thinking about the power of gratitude.
And how we each make our own luck, or not, through gratitude and generosity.
Happy birthday, my friend. You were are great lady while you walked this earth; you remain one in my heart.
Thanks for showing me what living a lucky life looks like.
