“If no pain, then no love. If no darkness, no light. If no risk, then no reward. It’s all or nothing. In this damn world, it’s all or nothing.” ~Glennon Doyle Melton
I tripped across this quote the other day and thought I might expand upon it, write something profound, somehow, because it sparked something in me, as though I’d brushed my hand on the hem of truth.
After some thought though, the most profound thing I can think to add is this: that Ms. Melton is bang on.
It’s all or nothing, life. All of it.
You’re either all in, all the time, or you’re out.
There is no middle ground.
Want success? You’re signing up for failure.
Want to win? You’ll lose along the way.
Want love? Pain is part of that deal.
Want freedom? Constraint comes with.
Want truth? Be prepared for betrayal and lies.
Because they go together, all those things, two sides of a coin and you don’t get one without the other.
Life is not about opposites. No, it’s about both / and, not either / or.
If you haven’t embraced that notion yet, well, maybe it’s time to consider it.
Doing so will make everything just a little bit easier, even when things get hard.
