“Patience is not simply the ability to wait; it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.” ~Joyce Meyer
Waiting for the results of the U.S. election this week, day after day, required patience.
Patience is hard.
It takes time and practice.
It only occurs in the presence of tension.
It is a choice, an act of the will.
And it’s hard.
It is best practiced when most inconvenient.
And it’s like a muscle: use it or lose it.
Which is why it hurts when you’ve not practiced it regularly.
Because it’s hard.
But the strength of will and the discipline of emotional control it engenders is worth the price of practicing at times and in places where it matters.
It sucks, but in a world that has placed such value on speed and winning, sometimes waiting is the only way we learn that patience is a virtue.
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ~Jean-Jacques Rousseau
