I completed the first draft of my next book this week and sent it off to a few pairs of eyes for initial feedback. (Working title, Four Fridays, coming Spring 2020.)
Several have already read the first few chapters and responded. Thus far, the most often used word is “Love.” As in “love it!”
Good. It was written in love, about love, and I am heartened to know that my words are infused such that love is reflected.
My publisher responded with a request. She, too, used the word “love”. And she has recently—coincidentally—met a screenwriter for Netflix. Would I authorize her to offer my manuscript (with an NDA) for consideration?
Um, yeah.
That said, I put no stock in the plausibility of some grand outcome; that’s not the point.
The point is that that “coincidence” is no more than a sign post on a highway, indicating I’m on the right road, heading in the right direction.
Do I dream of my book becoming a best-seller? You bet’cha. Or a movie? Sure. Is that realistic? Have I any facts to back up my dreams?
Um, no.
But then, facts usually come after the dream is dreamt.
Our dreams are only as real as our efforts to make them so; following them takes courage and grit and determination and perseverance.
Hold tight to yours.
And then, work hard.
Because you never know when the next “coincidence” might coincide with your dream.
