I am wrung out by the past week’s world events: executive orders, protests, posts, tweets. I suspect many of you are, too.

For a lady who teaches leadership courses and coaches executives, watching this week’s White House antics has caused me more than a little consternation.

A cycle of vacillation—from disbelief, to outrage, to fear and sadness, then disgust and dismissal. Waves of it.

But I am also inspired by the world’s response to the rocky second week of the U.S.’s new administration: heart-warming stories of support, kindness, and bravery popping up all over the globe.

And then, I find this piece of news on Friday, Feb. 3: on Jan 31 and Feb 1st the Schumann Resonance spiked to over 30 hertz.

Um, what?

Let me explain:

Based on physicist Nikola Tesla’s brilliant work (we owe our modern electrical systems to him) one of the great revelations of 20th century science is that all existence can be broken down into simple wave functions. Every photon, energy emission, and elementary particle vibrates with its own unique wave signature. This includes emotions, too.

When we see a color, we are actually seeing a distinct frequency of visible light. When we hear a sound, our eardrums are actually vibrating with subtle waves in the air molecules around us. Even the neurochemical processes of human consciousness register as waves of frequencies.

By studying the way that waves interact with other waves, researchers have found that even low-powered oscillations can have enormous effects on standing waves, physical structures, and even the human brain and heart. The principle which describes this particular wavelength interaction is known as resonance. When you resonate with something, you are emitting a wave signature which is “in sync” with it.

Additionally, scientists use the word “entrainment” to describe the effect of a more powerful oscillation (or frequency) on a less powerful one: the less powerful will be drawn into and ultimately match the more powerful oscillation speed.

Since Schumann began recording the very low wave levels of the earth’s electromagnetic field itself in 1953, the “heart beat” has remained steady at 7.8 hz. Studying physics at the time I became aware of this esoteric piece of information, I remember when it started up-ticking in the 1990’s to 8.5 hz. It was a very big deal back then. Then, suddenly, in 2014 it shot up to over 16 hr. Now, only 3 years later, it has shot up again, suddenly, to over 30!

This is uncharted waters, folks. Brand new. No compass available.

Some people think the “heartbeat” equates to human consciousness. Some people think it’s all new-age bunk. I lean toward the left of centre on this one.

(Note:  this is also interlocked with the Fibonacci sequence–but that’s way too much for this post. Just note that this sequence, which informs all of nature and much of art, is based on the sum of the previous two numbers–1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, etc.–supports the notion that change/growth occurs exponentially.)

Regardless of the interpretive value of the data, it still says that something pretty darn powerful is happening not only on a visible level, but also on an unseen level on this planet. Right now.

What it suggests to me is that the emotional energy fields of the human collective are spiking in response to recent events and the dissonance is, quite literally, tearing us apart, like when you used to get leg aches as a child and your mom would say they were “growing pains.”

Humanity is experiencing growing pains. We are being asked to adjust to a more powerful oscillation than the lower one of power (positional), politics, and fear.

Not to be too cute, but truth, inclusion and compassion trump fear every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

So, if you, like I, am appalled by the new U.S. Administration, or are feeling tired or powerless, look at it this way: with eyes of wonder and curiosity. Earth is experiencing heart palpitations, the result of an unseen infection, and her inhabitants are trying to “grow into” this new level of awareness, for certainly, much that was once operating in the dark, behind the curtain, is being revealed and brought to light.

The people of the world are fighting a virus that has sent them to the streets seeking a saner and safer solution than fear and exclusion.

And the Schumann Resonance is recording it in real time.
